Machito Heavy Armored Vehicle.

Battling with my enemies, Vehicles! this one was a bastard that resisted to get done, took me a lot of passes and correction, draw and redraw again and again, and still there’s a lot to change but I guess mileage is what I need.

if this vehicle reminds you other vehicles, it might do cause I used a lot of references of other vehicles. hope next time things will go more smoother .

Life Drawing at CDA

This last sundayI had an amazing life drawing session at the Concept Design academy, where the model was simply amazing, I was able to see and draw the muscles more clearly, and had a lot of fun really inspired, this probably one of my best so far.

Character Sculpture with John Brown at Gnomon School

Since I knew about Gnomon And their DVD Workshop back into 2006, one of the DVD Collection that I own and think worth all money is the John Brown DVDs, where it be making the armature, characters and cast of sculptures, they are full of information that helped me to draw better even when it was about sculpture.

And since I came to Gnomon the class I was excited the most to take was Character Sculpture, and to know that John Brown himself was going to teach the class was like a dream come true.

I never knew something like this could be possible but life has been good to me, and since I started his class 5 weeks ago, I’ve been learning from this master.

So for this class I choose to sculpt Kratos and face for the first time a sculpture I’ll be finishing, let’s say my first “proper” sculpted character, the reason I choose him is that I could finally apply all I’ve learned in the Anatomy tools workshops in terms of anatomy and sculpting techniques.

So far it has been really challenging but rewarding experience
More updates coming!!

Life Drawing

Hi! Today we got a oddly shaped model to draw, it was a challenge but I enjoyed, I have more drawing buy I’m just sharing a few I like.

I’ve been walking without a destination.

I’ve been walking without a destination.

during al these years of drawing and painting, I’ve seen my skill change a lot and one of the main reason is because I started studying more anatomy looking form other sources of inspirations then I came back to my art and it improved, but with every year that passed I felt less and less excited about drawing the same character type in the same format, same colours with some changes to represent other characters, I lied somehow to myself that this is the way I should work, I created my own safe zone, my shield, drawing the same stuff not taking risks, saying to myself , someday the moment will come when I’ll draw something different, but never gave the change to let it grow.

when I started doing life drawings I felt different, I did it first to learn the anatomy, but I found something better,  I felt really like an artist, never felt like that before, I never went to a school to learn how to draw. I realised  I’ve been missing the basics, the proper basic training about what is to draw and paint and how it should be observed and applied.  I made my own rules to learn, but they where not effective enough and I came back to draw the same.

Anyhow, back to why I’m writing this. Since I came to LA to look for inspiration and proper training, I went to Gnomon School of visual effects and since then, I’ve meet awesome artists and sculptors working in the industry, I’ve been to studios like Legacy Effects, Blur, Scanline, and many more,  I’ve been introduced to how the industry works, it’s pipelines and techniques, its a new world that I’m been exposed to, and it’s awesome.

But one of the things that changed the game for me happened just recently, when I decided to take the Anatomy level 2 with Andrew Cawrse and the creature design workshop with Carlos Huante at Anatomy tools.com  I found a new love for sculpting, for anatomy, and for designing creatures, in two weeks I learned more that I would do in two years, a  pure stream of knowledge from these masters that worked on Starwars and Avatar, Predator Alien and load of awesome films, I found new artists to look up to and feel inspired.

I’ve changed my art has changed…

I want to explore and learn, be able to be a multi skilled artist and not just an artist with one tool, I’m not going to stop drawing or painting, but definitely I’ll be starting new things, many of you follow my artwork for what it is, some for the style, some for the colouring, and some just because it’s sexy, I don’t want to be know as the guy who draw big chested woman, I’m tired of that…  to be honest it’s the last subject I would like to draw right now, I know I can do it anytime and I’m good at it, I can come back anytime, but  I want to give space to new ideas and challenge myself.

Many of you won’t understand this, I did’t understand it for years,  I want to be an awesome Concept Artist.

Changes to notice:

- I’m writing a lot and changing my website if you want to find more of my work you can check now my redesigned blog  http://reiq.co.uk/Blog/

- Most of my old artwork has been removed including all my scrap work ( some haven’t received a comment in 5 years.), also I’ll be cleaning other websites with my work.

- All of my JG teasers will be moved to http://jigglygirl.deviantart.com/  :iconjigglygirl:  new teasers will be posted here for 3 days and moved to this new account.

-I’ll be changing more things for sure.

Neville Page gallery at Gnomon School

One of the things I love the most about staying in Gnomon is all the events and galleries they have in the school, you are you surrounded and inspired by all this amazing artists.

What I don’t like is to have classes at the same time as these events, I’ve missed a few, but the gallery remains open for weeks.

So after my sculpture class, I decided to take some photos of the gallery and why not share here! Hope Neville is fine with that!
